What girl doesn't? But then there's plenty of guys that do too! And this past Friday night three to four hundred lucky men and women enjoyed Magic Dick for over 3 hours at the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh's South Side. Ok, enough with my shameless quest for hits. What can I say? Sex sells. So does Music.
Honey took me to see the Tommy Castro Band , Deanna Bogart , Ronnie Baker Brooks , and Magic Dick (formerly with the J Geils Band). They all played for over 3 hours. It was AWESOME! What talent! It was a truly incredible show.
I don't pay too much attention to music because as I lose my hearing . . . well. But I didn't have any problems hearing these people play and they were a real joy to watch. All of them were full of excitement from the moment they walked up to the stage until they walked off the stage after 12:30. It made the time just slide by.
It was my first trip to the South Side of Pittsburgh. I don't remember the statistics the shuttle driver quoted but it was something like 57 bars and clubs in a ten block stretch. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express which was much more to my liking than the Sheraton at Station Square. I just wish I was feeling better. We were also accompanied by Honey's "blues brother" from work and his lovely wife. We had a late lunch and decided to grab dinner after the show. We sat at a table overlooking the street and marveled at how many young people were out in 10° weather wearing short sleeves, tank tops, and shorts. Alright, I didn't marvel. It pissed me off. I'm sitting there in my thickest parka, freezing my hiney off, not feeling well, and these little shits are running around without coats. WTF!
After eating, we went outside for our six block walk back to the Hotel and I had to yell:
YOUR MOTHERS SENT ME DOWN HERE TO TELL YOU TO PUT ON YOUR COATS!!!!!
You'll never guess what the drunken little shits yelled back. Well, I'm telling their Mothers.
Here have some Magic Dick. It will make you feel better.
Sounds like fun! We've been to Carson Street, but it's been during the
day. I'm sure it's quite different at night.
Oh! I just noticed that Magic Dick is coming to Cincinnati--the Kentucky
side of the river--in a few weeks. I should blog their show, also seeing
if I can pander to the sex crowd. I mean, Magic Dick ought to get a few
hits?
Egads! I thought you'd joined the viagra spam parade! Thank goodness I
was wrong. Liked the music. Love, Mom
Seems as though we both jumped on the music tip. Great minds think alike!

Our bodies sure have a way of betraying us over time. Some things just
sneak up on us. We do have one major thing over those youngsters though,
We can savor our young hearts and have the sense and appreciation to really
enoy in a wider sense then they can!
MUSIC is LIFE!
Seems to me I had one of those at one time, ha ha
Neal--Honey has introduced me to the blues performers. They are a far cry
from the shows I saw in Cleveland. The crowds are older, or rather more
mature. They are much more behaved. You can have a really nice time
without having to worry about drunken/high youths fighting or puking next
to you. The performers are there because they enjoy their "art" and after
a 3 hour show I'm pretty sure they can run rings around any of the
youngsters out there playing today. Now the crowd on Carson Street was
younger but still behaved or maybe 10 degree weather just takes the vinegar
out of them. We did take "The Man" out to lunch the next day, and shopped
for groceries. It was a great trip. I'll bet you and Mrs. would have a
great time. As for the hits . . . . I haven't noticed any more activity
than usual but maybe you'll have better luck in your neck of the woods.
Peter Wolf was indeed a hawtie! Wasn't he? Wiggling around in that skin
tight striped shirt and yes, well, um.....the jeans were okay too! Yeah, I
loved J. Geils. Another band that was big when I was in college.
