The Mission Continues

I wrote to the Governor and my state reps today.  I also wrote to my employer via the corporate ladder.   You get to read the letter to the Gov.  Sorry, I am leaving out the letter to my employer.  I don't want it to seem like I have an axe to grind with them specifically.  That letter would only give them a black eye.  And I want to stress, that while I love what I do and where I work, they are not the sole perpetrators of the uncaring, greedy attitude that has taken over everything.  It is society and business that have pushed the bounds of decency concerning families.    I've omitted names and places to protect the innocent.  Or maybe it's the guilty because I don't want to be squashed like some insignificant insect.

It's incredibly simple to find the addresses to all the people who are supposed to be serving us.  So I suggest to anyone who feels strongly about something (like saving the American family) to write to your representatives.  Here you go:

I am a relatively recent resident of Pennsylvania. I had a business in Blank County.  I am now a resident of Small Town, Pennsylvania, where I am employed by Blank. As a former employer, an employee, a resident and voter, I am appealing to you for help, and not only on my behalf.

We need to reinstate and enforce the Blue Laws. I am absolutely appalled at the utter disrespect employers are showing to their employee’s, their families, and the community at large. It’s not enough that these people give up their time with their loved ones to service the general Monday through Friday population, but they do it for peanuts. And after they have made themselves available for everyone’s shopping convenience 24/7, they are forced to give up their holidays too. The working poor now have nothing to look forward to but a lifetime of toil.

I am heartsick at the condition of the American family. Divorce rates are at 50%. Prisons are overflowing. Drug use is epidemic. Teachers are taxed trying to teach children things they should be learning at home. The gap between the haves and have nots is widening. People struggle to meet the basic needs of their families. Corporations are becoming rich off the sweat of the working poor. People treat each other with such disregard. We have abandoned our families for a few dollars. It’s disgusting.

Our most vulnerable population, the working poor and their families, have no one to speak for them except you. We all need one day. That is all. One day to work on our marriages. One day to teach our children values, morals, and manners. One day to take care of our elderly parents.

I can’t begin to tell you about the hurt and anger my family, friends, and coworkers went through on Easter Sunday. We have very little opportunity to be with our relatives if not for the occasional holiday. Our typical days usually start before the kids, and spouses, leave for school or work. Or the kids and spouses have gone off to school and work and we are working well after they have gone to bed. I have volunteered to give up a days pay so I could be with my family. But, my employer does not make Sundays and Holidays an option, you work when you are scheduled or you find yourself another job. We are no longer employees, we are hostages.

I have some education, and experience, therefore I have some options, but there are millions who don’t have options. Won’t you please help us?

As always, your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Well said Catty. These are the real "family values" that concern the majority of Americans. Unfortunately, our voices get drowned out by those fighting for less important issues.
