When the world is spinning out of control . . . .HIDE!

posted Thursday, 27 April 2006

This is where I come to hide when I can't stomach the news, lawyers, accountants or anything else that has been stressing me out.  My way of staying in the Pepsi Generation, as opposed to the Prozac Nation.  It's my personal life and musings.

The major players in my personal drama are:

Honey-my significant other, the one who has taken in this stray Catty and given me someone I look forward to coming home too.

The Teen-actually Honey's teen, but if I could choose any teen person to be in my life, it would be him.  He's a really great kid, even if he doesn't eat enough vegetables.

Sparky-the cat.  Honey and The Teen's cat.  Honey says he's psycho, I say he's quirky.  A real rebel, he's always up on the counters no matter who yells at him.  He likes to claw everything including Honey's new sofa.  His favorite spot is the bathroom sink which might explain why he thinks a roll of toilet paper is a giant mouse to be destroyed at every opportunity.

Koobee-the cat.  Mine.  A major predator, but very loving.  He's very smart and understands the word no.  He also seems to know when I need some comforting.  At my lowest moments he'll crawl into my lap purring like a motor and giving me head butts like he's telling me he knows my pain.  He likes to sleep on top of my head.

Tuesday of this week was my day off.  I was getting really stressed out about the mission and the letters I was writing.  It didn't help that I was on the 2pm to 11pm shift the last few days at work, and after this day off I had to switch to the 5:45am to 2:45pm shift.  This is part of the problem that made me mad enough to start the mission.  Sleep deprivation!!!  Coming soon, an article in the mission about this.  This kind of scheduling really burns a person out.  You can't establish any kind of sleep rhythm.  Then your feeding schedule gets all messed up.  I'm not a spring chicken anymore, I like routines.  So to relax, I made Honey some stuffed peppers and I cut the grass so Honey wouldn't have to do it after working all day.  Then when the peppers were cooking, Honey threw some burgers on the grill for The Teen.  The Teen doesn't do stuffed peppers.  He's a chicken and burger boy.  It was warm out so I thought I would sit on the porch.  What a great night!  The smell of burgers and freshly mown grass wafting by.  The chimney swifts whorling around and twittering overhead.  Sparky the cat even spent a few minutes outside until a bird got to close and chased him inside.  The peppers turned out great.  Now I would have to turn in early to start the next day, talk about pressure.

Wednesday, got about 5 hours of fitfull sleep in before starting at 5:45am.  Don't remember much about that day at work except for the comments made in the lunchroom while my pepper was in the microwave.  Honey calls this "lunch envy."  I finally got home and played with some of the features in my blog.  We did an encore presentation with the stuffed peppers, then some good natured ribbing about the proper way to wash and stack dishes.  Honey did some laundry.  I'm not allowed to touch the laundry.  My laundering skills are known far and wide.  Everyone seems to agree that I am the kiss of death to fine washables.  My own two children were doing their own laundry when they reached the age of seven.  They would have done it much sooner but, this was the age they could reach the controls safely.  Honey snuck out and bought a chocolate raspberry cake, yummy. How do I keep my girlish figure?  We eventually settled down to watch a rerun of Sunday's Sopranos.  I missed the beginning on Sunday because some nitwit decided we needed to stay open an extra hour at work.  I was pushing the limits staying up to watch it since I had another early shift.

Thursday, a really good start, I actually slept well despite having to get up at 5am for work.  My letter to the corporate big wigs has sent some comments trickling down to my boss.  They haven't fired me yet.  Also good.  Honey took us out to dinner tonight, the local steak and seafood place.  They have a nice salad bar and homemade soups.  Of course I ate too much.  We noticed a note on the wall as we were leaving.  They would be closed Memorial Day so their employees could spend time with their families.  I'll have to send them a thank you note.  We hit the local evil Walmart to burn some calories and to start the quest for kitty num nums.  I always agonize over which flavor I got Koobee the last time we were on a quest.  I settled on the orange bag since Honey thought we got the blue bag last time.  Honey just picks a cheap bag for Sparky since Sparky ends up yaking whatever he eats.  Picked up the new Stephen King book.  Maybe its just a silly fantasy, but I kinda like the idea that excessive cell phone use could be lethal.

My daughter gave me a second grandson last week.  Maybe I'll finish that cross stitch I started when the first one was born 2 1/2 years ago.
