Honey, I Blew Up the Computer!

posted Thursday, 15 February 2007

There wasn't any smoke or fire like there was when I put my tea kettle on and let it boil dry.  But when you turn it on and a black screen with "cannot start windows because the config file is missing or corrupted" pops up, it's a goner.  It's already been to the computer doctor twice.   Honey doesn't want to throw anymore money into it.  It wouldn't be so bad if we could find that restore disk, but we can't, so now we have to share the computer with "the teen".

Things were going so good too.  We booked our vacation in sunny Kissimmee, Fla.  There's been just enough snow to make us want to get away.  Work has been slow enough for everyone to clean and catch up with odds and ends.

I was even going to join a gym so I could squeeze into my bathing suit.  But, after I checked out all the prices and availability, I figured I could buy the exercise equipment for what they wanted in membership.  That, and I'm not real keen on going and sweating in front of strangers.  I like exercising in the privacy of my own home.

I went up to Walmart and bought some dumb bells, ankle weights, and a Denise Austin tape.  The first week I thought she was an annoying torturous bitch but by the second week we were becoming pretty good friends.  Week three and I can actually hold my blubbery belly in, I'm three pounds lighter, my clothes fit better, and I've stopped yelling at Honey for leaving my clothes in the dryer too long.  Oops, Honey doesn't use the dryer, he line dries.  My bad.

I did make the mistake of seeing a really  cute swimsuit at Walmart and thought, "if I can't get into last years, I'll just buy a new one."  Big mistake.  It was way too soon.  The goal was just to get into the suit, not actually look good in it.  I left the dressing room thinking, "I need a more challenging exercise tape," and headed over to the video dept.  Another big mistake.  Damn Walmart and their evil plots.  They had actually surrounded the exercise videos with 2 liter bottles of Pepsi and Little Debbie Snack Cakes.  I hightailed it out of there and did a double dose of Denise.

Then I caught a cold Sunday.  I had to take off a day of work Monday.  That's when the tea kettle incident happened.  Nothing major.  Just the smoke detector and a couple hours of fanning involved.  The "Storm of Death" Tuesday and Wednesday.  Eh, four inches, big deal.  Thursday, today, "the teen" has just arrived home and is now kicking me off the computer.  Well it's time to go visit Denise anyway.  I'll have to visit with all my favorite bloggers another day.

"OK, I'm getting off!"  Bye everyone!

I dread my computer breaking down on me. Although I've replaced my desk top's hard drive and was miraculously capable of reclaiming most of the data I had accumulated. I have back up files, but that's very difficult when you're attempting to save music.

Losing weight at this time of year is commendable. I've been exercising and lifting weights, but I've noticed my knee hasn't been right since I ran up the step from the subway a few weeks ago. It's too early for me to be walking like an old person. ;]

Feel better.

My computer is six years old. I need a new one badly. But I hate to spend the money. Eventually, I'll have to, I guess.

If you are in the market take a good look at a Mac. They are super reliable and all the software works. Its well worth the extra money. I haven't had a seious crash since I bought one whereas the PCs I had were always giving me the blue screen of death. I've been a Mac guy since 1991.

I'm inspired! You go girl - I give you credit for being able to deal with Denise's voice, which always got in the way of my using her tapes. As for trying on bathing suits - is there ever a good time? I truly believe even Heidi Klum would look shaky under those fluorescent lights! I"m all for tankini's with skirt bottoms. My ass will never see the light of day again. Sorry about the computer, though. It's become an absolute essential.

Dang, Catty, that's almost too much to take in for just one post (and then I get down to the end of comments and see that W has a NEW COMPUTER!). I loved "Damn Walmart and their evil plots. They had actually surrounded the exercise videos with 2 liter bottles of Pepsi and Little Debbie Snack Cakes." LMAO (well, not literally - I wish!). Hope you're feeling better.
