And This One Makes Three

posted Wednesday, 30 April 2008

I just paid for another year of blog service then go silent.  One month, three entries.  Sad, very sad.

Maybe I'm depressed because my candidate didn't have the big win here in PA.  It's too white here in PA. Oh sure, hide behind "the man doesn't have enough experience," because that just translates to "I would never vote for a N!99#R!"  If I hadn't heard some of these people, with my own ears,  say that one truly appalling thing in private only to be followed by the "experience"  comment in public, I might have thought they were ignorant about what it takes to lead a country.  Now they are plain stupid bigots.  How can the other candidates who have taken millions from insurance, drug, and medical lobbies, turn around and promise us dumb-ass voters universal health care?  Doesn't ANYONE question how impartial that candidate is going to be when it's time to divvy up the billions?

CNN had a story on the soldiers behind the pictures at Abu Graib.  Someone must have had a conscience to see what was happening, knowing it was wrong, then photographing the abuse as evidence because I remember several soldiers going through court martial.  Why bother?  Can someone explain the thought process to me?   Sexual humiliation-BAD, waterboarding-GOOD.  Why should anyone know right from wrong when our leaders condone torture by calling it something palatable like "harsh interrogation techniques"?

I'm starting my own religion.  It's the perfect way for me to get away with all the bad things I like to do.  Then I could cry religious persecution when someone tries to stop me.  My followers will not picket veterans funerals in protest of homosexuality.  I still don't see the logic in that one.  We won't practice polygamy (or whatever the proper term is, sorry Will) because after having been stupid enough to marry I've come to the conclusion that anyone who would willingly want more than one spouse is mentally unbalanced.  Just have consensual safe sex with whomever you would like as long as they are over 18.  Sorry, I'm not running some farm team for aging pedophiles.  Since I couldn't convince my kids to keep their rooms clean, I doubt I'd be able to convince them that having sex (or marriage) with wrinkly old uncle Al would be the time of their lives.  GAG!  How about human sacrifice?  Would you feel honored if I told you that you were chosen by God to save the earth from all its ills through your death?  Anyone else notice how these "prophets" get everyone else to do the sacrificing?  Could Charles Manson have used religious persecution as a defense?

Are we supposed to get more patient with age or less?  I forgot.  Forgetting comes with age.  I do remember that.  In my case, it seems to be less patient.  Then again, it could be my aversion to children.  I spent the weekend with my mom and my niece.  My niece looks like she's about 12 or 13 but in reality she is only 9.  We went shopping which was amusing.  Everything I thought was cute she rolled her eyes at.  I was thinking we don't have the same taste in clothing, and I was fine with that.  I even commented that the generation gap was becoming a generation canyon.  It didn't even bother me that she kept taking pictures of EVERYTHING we did every couple of minutes.   What made me snap was sitting in the restaurant that only had one waitress who FINALLY came over to get another round of drinks and when she got to my niece the girl froze like a deer caught in headlights.  My mom tried to prod her back into consciousness by asking, "do you want another milkshake or would you like an ice tea?"  Nothing.  She just stared into space.  After what seemed like an eternity, I thought I screamed, "FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!  IT'S NOT SOPHIE'S CHOICE!  YOU AREN'T CHOOSING BETWEEN THE LIFE OF YOUR SON OR THE LIFE OF YOUR DAUGHTER!  IT'S A MILKSHAKE OR ICE TEA!  PICK ONE!!!"  Honey told me later that what I really said was, "Milkshake, ice tea, milkshake, ice tea.  Pick one.  The waitress has other things she has to do."  I'm now known as mean Aunt Catty.  There's probably a whole unflattering photo spread of mean Aunt Catty over on my nieces My Space page.  It will inspire my grandson in a few short years.  He'll publish tales of mean Grandma Catty.

There are some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed.  This past Monday was one of those days.  I've taken the liberty of rearranging the calender to minimize this phenomenon.  Please make the appropriate changes to your schedules.

Niece had a great time! Her Mom told me so. Niece is prodded by everyone so your prodding felt right at home. Anyway--she has a problem making decisions about food. If you take her or her brother to a restaurant--be prepared to factor in about 30 minutes for decision making. I think that outer space stare is when she is consulting her internal chefs (lips, tongue, stomach, nose) for their consensus before she decides. I had a great time too. Really liked the Johnstown Discovery Center. Sooooo happy I did not live there in the mid 1800's!!

Wow! That was a perfect blog, as I identified w/ every paragraph, enough so, that I'm gonna have my wife read it, so I can say to her, "See, there are other people out there who think along the lines I do!"

Paying for a blog & not composing entries - check! Listening to ignorant people, covering politics and religion on that 1, check! Governmental torture, and I used to think that was just the DMV! You know "water-boarding" is serious, when it comes up in regular conversation, between the weather, the price of gas, and American Idol! I'm all for a new organized religion, and you make some pertinent points! As far as patience, I'm finding it in surprising places, though my wife'll disagree w/ me on that 1. We had the pleasure of entertaining my wife's nephew (11) and niece (5 but acts like she's 10), who are really good kids, but talk about an insane energy level, so much that my mother-in-law, snapped quite a few times, but it could be worse, right.

Thanks for posting that entry, big sigh of relief!

Don't worry about how much you post. It's WHAT you post. And what you post is damn good. Truthful, intelligent and really fun to read. I couldn't agree more. Count me in at the Church of Catty. You go girl.

Excellent observations with the Great Catty wit! ;] You have a novel way of seeing the world that's really entertaining. Hopefully, you and I won't have to go through Pennsylvania with our rifles to convince folks to vote for Obama in November over McCain.

Mom-I had visions of Niece crying all the way home. Glad you guys had fun. You now have a nice guest room to stay in. It's my next blog.

Kevin-Kids are always better behaved when they aren't yours. I've found that it's because they don't know what to expect. "Oops, spilled your milk? We'll just tie you to the tree for the next hour because that's how we do things here."

JWL-I totally forgot about the tax breaks. Wow, I can be bad and make money. Where's my hat??

Nutsy Fagan-Thank you. For a small donation you can be my first charter member. Would you like to be a Deacon? Only a few bucks more.

Capt.-Thank you. If we have to shoot them, we'd only be doing the world a favor.
